I created an interactive PDF using buttons and text fields in InDesign CC 2019. Basically, multiple buttons utilize “show/hide” in order to circle various words and text can be typed in fill in the blank areas. Everything displays and functions correctly when view it is exported as an interactive PDF. The problem is printing the form. The text fields work perfectly fine, but the buttons ALL print as if selected, even when they are not.
Layer 1 has all static text, which is locked. Layer 2 has all buttons. Layer 3 has all fillable text fields. All buttons are set up the same basic way. Here is the set up of how I was able to get the text to be “circled” when clicked on:
Button called “rush option”: I drew a rectangle without a stroke or fill and turned it into a button. This rectangle is set “on release or tap” with an action to “show/hide buttons and forms”. Visibility set to “ignore” every button except for “rush selected”. Button “rush selected” is set to “show” visibility. “Printable” is selected.
Button called “rush selected”: Then I have another rectangle with a black stroke on top of the other rectangle. This rectangle is also set “on release or tap” with an action to “show/hide buttons and forms”, with the addition of “hidden until triggered”. Visibility set to “ignore” every button except for “rush selected” and “rush option”. Button “rush selected” is set to “hide” visibility and “rush option” is set to “show”. “Printable” is also selected.
Hopefully, that explains the functionality of the form and how it is set up. I don’t know how to include screen shots so I hope my methodology is understood.
I created this order form so my office can type order information and print them out for production so the printing problem is pretty significant for me. Does anyone have suggestions or ideas to fix the problem?
