      Hi

Using “Tabs” panel (Type > Tabs) to insert separator like dots is easy. But I ?have a problem. I use it and then update my table of contents that I’ve already ?made it; all dots in front of entries disappear and my numbers in front of my ?entries back to their positions (a tab ^t). ?

I know “Between Entry and Numbers” feature in “Table of Contents” dialogue ?box (Layout > Table of Contents) that insert a separator; but I can’t make a ?separator like that I did by “Tabs” panel. ?

By using “Tabs” panel you can set a specific point on your ruler for numbers in ?X field (a point where a separator ends) and you can a set a leader (like dot or ?any characters) but I don’t know how to set a specific point on ruler for ?numbers in TOC dialogue box. ?

I need a TOC like the below picture that make all a table of contents in TOC ?without helping “Tabs” panel. Can I make it or I should both TOC options with ??“Tabs” panel together? ?

Thank you in advance for your help.?

      Hello,

it sounds like you need to make a separate Paragraph style which is specially for the TOC itself, including the tabs with separator dots (Leader).
Then assign that para style to the TOC in the TOC dialog box (it’s in the middle of the TOC dialog box as “Style: Entry Style”)

      Cheerio,
      Chris.

Thomson, you right. I think about it; but as you know we just define tabs/leader in “Paragraph Styles” not in “Character Styles” and in the middle options on the TOC dialog box just accepts a style that define in “Character Styles” not “Paragraph Styles”.

Are you sure? On my version (CS6), the middle option on the TOC dialog box includes Paragraph Styles as well as an option for “New Paragraph Style…”

Edit: those IMG tags don’t work, but you get the idea.

Sorry, I thought you mention to two drop-down menus in front of “Page Number” and “Between Entry and Number” features (I meant Styles drop-down menus). Yes, sure sure that New Paragraph Style is exist in “Entry Style” drop-down menu. Fortunately I’ve fixed it now (I’m happy). I should set leader and tab to my “entry” style which I define to my entries (in Paragraph Styles), but I imagine I should make a paragraph style for separator separately.

      Thanks Thompson.
