I created an index (call it Wolfson Book Index), added a set of styled pages (called Section Template, and not shared by any other book, and none of the three books I InDesign-ed are on my hard drive) and began indexing the chapters of the book, and pasting the index in the “chapter” Wolfson Book Index. Each time I try to generate an index, entries from three previous book indices THAT I DON'T EVEN HAVE ON MY HARD DRIVE ANYMORE, but are on a separate drive that is not now connected to the computer, keep reappearing on the indexes I generate. A couple of weeks back I went through and deleted the entries in the index panel one by one, but they keep reappearing. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I read the books and watched the videos (InDesigner index #33-37) and I don't know what to do. This is a weird one and I really need help here.

      Thanks in advance.

I wish I had a good suggestion. Indexing is a black art, I think, especially with InDesign's somewhat clunky tools. Have you tried exporting as IDML or INX and opening that? Perhaps something just got “stuck” somewhere.

I'm sorry, I don't know what IDML or INX are.

Hey, on a completely different question, you have some form of “certification” on InDesign. What's it called, and where can one get this?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Probably best to use the Search field at the top of the page to find info on IDML and INX. They are export formats, often used for troubleshooting possibly corrupted documents.

We don't currently offer our own certification, but Adobe offers certification. There is some information here:

Hey thanks for the information. Have you updated the Guide to CS5? You Da Man!

Clicking on the book cover graphic doesn't work. ¿?

What advantage is there to buying the eSellerate “download service”?

We are working on the CS5 update now. Sorry for the delay.

Honestly, I don't think there is any significant advantage of buying their extra $5 download service. I don't think esellerate lets us turn that off, though. Sorry! Just uncheck it.

I bought your book. Things haven't changed that much from CS4, have they?
