      Hi friends,

sometimes I simply can’t export IDML from InDesign, and I don’t know why. With some INDD files InDesign always freezes (always!) when I try it, and the IDML file is not created. (Well, actually it is created but the file opened for writing is not closed, so it remains 0 bytes long at the end.) It doesn’t affect all INDD files, just some of them.

One morning I had an idea of passing the problem to Adobe: I tried to open a naughty INDD file with an older version so that the conversion would be done somewhere in the cloud by Adobe’s own system. Aaaaand the file couldnt convert. The cloud converter dropped the error message: “xxxx.indd couldn’t be converted to InDesign Markup Language (IDML) format.” Or something similar, I use Hungarian InDesign, so I don’t know the exact text.

Did anyone else meet this problem? What can be the reason?

      Thx: Tamás (Tom)

Are there embedded/pasted images in the file? Or data from a third-party plugin? I’m thinking it has to be something not specified in IDML itself. You could try things like deleting all the images, replacing fonts, deleting styles and swatches, exporting one page at a time, etc, to find the problem.

Hi Mike, now I checked one of the problematic documents. I has only one placed image, a TIFF file. It is normally linked, not pasted or embedded.
I use a 3rd-party hyphenation program but I use it in all of the documents I create, so id doesn’t make a difference, I think.
The partial export is a good idea, thanks! :) I will report here what I found.
