      Hi Group,

Since I am working from home during the pandemic, I am finding that the version of InDesign I have at home is older than the one I have in my office. I brought my back-up drive home, so I have all of my documents, but I find I can’t open most of what I need.

Is there any easy way to open these documents up without having to go into the office and converting them to an IDML? I live 30 minutes away from my office and never really know what I’m going to need from day to day.

Thanks for any tips you might have.

What version do you have? What version is at the office?

InDesign implemented an automatic “convert to IDML” a while back, which should kick in when trying to open a later version… but I don’t remember exactly what version it started with. Probably CC.

The one in my office 13.0.1 and the one I have at home is OLD From CC4 6.0.6. Since I hardly need it at home normally, I never felt the need to upgrade. Thank you!

I think you might mean “CS4”? That’s going to be hard. Even if you do export IDML, there are dozens of features that, if you used them in CC, will get lost when you open in CS4. But I guess if the files are simple, it should work.

However, Markzware does have a product that lets you convert INDD files to IDML, called idmarkz… I haven’t tried it recently, but if you try it let us know how it goes!

Yes, I did mean CS4 – I will give it a try. I’ll let you know. Thanks so much for your help.

If your workplace has an InDesign account, you are allowed to install your copy of InDesign 2 places! Why don’t you just log in to your work-Adobe id, and install InDesign at home?
