      Hi.

Sorry for bringing this topic here, I respect the Indesign community, but I’m tired of tech people suggesting weird things instead of trying to understand my problem and I think your opinion will be more reliable.

PLEASE: if you think this is not the right place, you can delete this post. I just think you will understand the real necessity better.

My computer is getting old and I need to buy a new one. I just use Indesign (100 pages magazine each month) and sometimes do some posters in Illustrator. I have here a MacBook Late 2009 that is serving me fine in the last 8 years (2.26Ghz, 8Gb RAM and a 256GB SSD). My only complain is when exporting a PDF, task that takes several minutes.

I’ve checked Apple Store and saw some models. They have 2.9 processors with 8Gb and 256 SSD. The big question here is those machines has almost the same configuration as mine (2.26GHz, 8GB, 250SSD) and maybe spend $2,000 to don’t get a big performance improvement won’t help.

Any idea? What do you use? I really miss my G5 Pro PPC, but I cannot use desktops anymore.

      Thanks a lot,
      Luiz

Sorry. I have no advice as I’m a “tower” man, though at work I’m on an iMac. I know nothing about laptops.

But since you said you can’t use desktops anymore, is it because of you don’t have the room for it? If so, the mini-macs are a pretty good deal (though you have to buy your own monitor–which are cheap nowadays.

        Dear Dwayne,

I agree with you and prefer the “serious” machines, but I travel a lot and need to work in weird places. I was thinking in the past that I can have a desktop and a laptop, so I can work better when here, and have the option when on the road, but since laptops are doing well with my work, I forgot about this idea.

Some people from Apple Forum gave me good advices. They explained that new machines, even having similar speed then my actual machine, their processing power is grater. So I’m thinking about the cheaper MacBookPro model with a processor upgrade. Still checking benchmarks and other opinions, but I think will be it. :)

Thanks a lot and as soon as I buy it I’ll share here the experience. Maybe it can help other people to take a decision. :)
