    Hi there

    I’m building a manual and have a question concerning numbering.
    I have a design where a Heading I text is placed in the right or left corner (but without a number shown)
    In de text plane underneath it i will like to restart numbering of heading II each time the heading I changes.

    So for example

    first chapter name
    a.1 Sub chapter a1
    a.2 sub chapter a2

    Seconcond chapter name
    b.1 sub chapter b1
    b.2 sub chapter b2

    I had the same idea, but

    1. if i do not want that the big title has a Letter, it also does not show that in the Sub numbering…

    furthermore, If I use the anchoring, it acts weird. It does not do what I want to.

    When I talk about “anchoring”, I mean: type the header text in an anchored text frame at the beginning of the first subtitle placed outside the page (on the pasteboard) and use a variable to define the header on a master page.

    No solution, just a small aside: Would one single paragraph style for TOP title be enough? Instead of left and right you could chose the option »Nicht am Bund« (german for something like not in the spine).

    @ dieter: thank you for that. I changed it, I did not know that this existed.

    @ Michel: good idea, it solves the issues almost. Is it possible to get the anchoring marker before the a sub-title (with numbering)?
    If u just place it before the text the first sub-title refers to the previous chapter, while the other ones are ok! (see picture)
