Hello all, just joined after searching for help with InDesign and Spark Post. I run a social media fan account and need something to help make my posts stand out.

I need something that lets me upload photos then edit the text on them. I like to play around with fonts a little, change the colours of the fonts especially. I also like to use textures and enhance images with colours and effects.

I’ve tried a couple apps but keep coming back to reviews of Spark Post, which led me to InDesign and Illustrator. I appreciate this is a forum for InDesign, but I’m wondering if anyone here can guide or advise on which would be the best product?

I’m a complete newbie to the world of design and graphics, I’ve been doing the social media account for a couple of years and right now use Typography as the app for editing which is incredibly basic.

I know I can purchase a Spark subscription standalone but for a little more a month I know you can get Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign or Illustrator… I think PS and Lightroom would be too overwhelming and I really don’t need them (I don’t edit the photos themselves or need storage for them).

In my opinion, using InDesign and Illustrator just for social media posts is really overkill, like using a high-end professional table saw when a hand saw from the hardware store will do. It’ll work! But it will require significant training and work to make something that other tools could probably throw together quickly.

What is it that you want that Spark Post doesn’t do?

Have you looked at Canva? Seems like there are many of these kinds of tools out there now: https://sociallysorted.com.au/best-canva-alternatives/

Hi David, thank you for replying!

That’s what I thought, those programs are too much for what I need. I think Spark Post will do those things, possibly Canva. I have looked at Canva. I tried PicMonkey, that was perfect except their app wouldn’t let you use imported fonts and you can’t do as much as you can on their desktop site. Canva has had some bad reviews from what I’ve read, but I’m willing to try it.

I’m hoping Canva and/or Spark Post let me include textures and play with fonts, in PicMonkey you can put the textures on the fonts giving them their own designs not just one plain colour. I know it’s only for social media posts but I want them to look good.

Thank you for that link, I’m checking it out now!
