In our design/prepress dept of a newspaper, we use an Excel doc which we enter how many pages in a publication we are outputting and the document will fill in a running list eg: enter '16, then the doc will fill in numbers 1 thru to 16, then we mark off what pages have been sent to which RIP , or what laser printer for proofing they have been sent to (used this way so the change-over from day to night shift know what's going on).

As we are reducing our paper usage, I would like to create a PDF from an ID doc which I can fill out electronically.

To my question, how can I make an ID work like this? We are using CS3. Hopefully you can work out what I'm after.

InDesign cannot export pdfs with form fields in them. We've all been asking for that for many years. You can make a form and then add the form fields in Acrobat Pro.

That said, you can make tables in InDesign that have spreadsheet functions in them with this plug-in: https://dtptools.com/product.asp?id=atid

Thanks David. I have been working with Active LiveCycle Designer, but I thought ID would be much quicker, then through Acrobat. Cost is an issue at the moment, as we have 15 licences. Cheers
