Are they a little late rolling out an update this time? I got the 7.02 update, which didn't seem to do much.

I'm having a lot of crashes. And the other day I started a file from scratch and just as I was about to finish up the last few pages the whole file went haywire. I had used the wingdings glyph for a sqaure box to tick, and I set that up as a character style and had it nested into the text. It was all working fine, then it was decided that each section had to go into a box, so I thought the quickest way was to convert each section of text to a table. But when I got about halfway through the document, I went to convert a section of text to a table and all of a sudden random characters turned to wingdings, and some text with character style bold was removed from half of the words, leaving things like this “Preference” with the “e” at the end changed to a wingding.

Not only that but I couldn't export to the file to any format – including IDML, RTF, etc.

That's not the only issue I'm having. Anything with a bit of design work (not even using transparency) but simply using paragraph span and spit, sometimes I might just be copying a bit of text and indesign crashes, hangs, quits etc. Sometimes I'm just using the “redefine style” and InDesign crashes.

I've had to rebuild about 4 files in the last month, which can be time consuming.

So I'm just wondering what the story is on updates for InDesign and if anyone has heard anything.

You might have some corrupted preferences or a bad install. Try resetting your prefences and see if that help, if not, you might need uninstall and reinstall. These don't sound like bugs others have reported (so won't be corrected by an update) and probably unique to you're installation.
