InDesign CS5 suddenly misbehaving when copying text from other InDesign files

I use InDesign CS5 to set book interiors. I have a variety of books that use the same front matter. Normally, I just open one of the recent books and copy the text boxes from the finished project into the new project. This usually preserves all the text formatting, even if that text was not assigned to a paragraph style, or if it contained overrides to the paragraph style.

Suddenly, today, when I copy the same text boxes from the old document into the new document, none of the formatting is preserved. The text copies, as does the placement of the boxes, but not the styles. Everything defaults to the default Minion Pro left aligned.

I can think of anything I did differently. Any ideas?

Oh, and this only applies to text that isn't assigned a paragraph style and/or contains overrides to the paragraph style. When I went through and created paragraph styles for the elements, THEN the paste worked fine.

It sounds like your clipboard handling preferences may have been changed. Try this: from the Edit menu, choose Preferences, Clipboard Handling, When pasting text and tables from Other Applications, and select All Information.
