Well with all the fuss over being able to resize pages I thought I'd give it a go.

So I noticed the little Page resize icon on the bottom of the pages panel – I hadn't seen anyone in any post or video use this. So I gave it a go. You can select a plethora of page sizes.

But what caught my eye was Custom Page Size. This presented a Dialog Box and I can enter a name for it. So I entered fold and changed the width to 60 leaving the height.

Low and behold that Custom Page size is now available in a “Page Size Style” for me to use.

The only issue or thing that bugs me is that Custom Page Sizes you build for New Documents don't become available in the Custom Page Size dialog box. Which isn't a big deal – but would have been nice.

The other thing is that you can use the Fold page size in as many new documents as you want, it's there. And if you change the size of your Fold page size it only changes the size in the document you are working in, so the other documents remain untouched and your fold page size remains the same.

So Custom Page sizes are awesome – I'm sure I'll have plenty of usage for this!

One such use is that I could make a 3 page spread for a cover – then I can make a Custom Page Size for the Spine and call it “Spine”.

Then for each document I can just adjust the Spine Custom Page size through the Dialog Box.

I'm sure it will have other uses.

D'you think InD CS5 will open a file set up in CS4 with the Page Control plugin from DTP Tools — e.g., a 5-page spread used for making dustjackets?

I've bought the CS5 upgrade but can't instal it yet because a couple of plugins I use regularly haven't been upgraded for CS5 which I find frustrating … even so, I'd be interested in hearing whether anyone has opened a CS4/Page Control file as the books sometimes go for reprinting and the covers need resizing or something.

      Thanks.

      I don't know – I've never had that plug-in? Good question though.

I used Page Control at one point (version 2.0 and 2.1) and then stopped using it. IIRC the few files I actually used it on worked fine when opened later in an install without the plug-in, so my guess is the file will open without any problem. How well everything can be edited I don't dare guess.

You could remove all content from one of your files and send the empty file over to someone who does have CS5 but not the plug-in.

Thanks for your replies. When I get to CS5 at least I'll do so with less trepidation!

      Hi,

Page Control created files can be opened and edited in CS5. We're in the process of finishing a CS5 version of the “reader” plug-in, which will get rid of all Page Control related data and the file will be as if created in CS5.

If anyone needs to use it soon and is happy with a pre-release version, just drop us a line at support@dtptools.com we're also eager to hear your ideas about which page size related features you miss in CS5 and would like Page Control to bring.
