      HI Folks,

I'm having a wee issue with layout using data merge. I'm working on a events guide for summer 2010. I've managed to set up a basic template to input the data from an excel file (.txt) for each event. I've sorted out all my layout options in the create merge document window. multiple records etc.. but i'm getting varying sizes of space inbetween each record (event). The records are displayed as one column only.Which is what I want.

Each record is held within a text frame and inside that I create a table to arrange the data. No matter what I do I can't get uniform spacing between each record. Its like herding cats!… which if you've tried, is no fun!

If anyone has any ideas and would like to save me much pain and effort then please do throw them at me.

      Cheer for now

Why would you want each record to be in different textframes? You get much more control if you use, for instance, a frame per event. Maybe this also causing your problem?

Edit: reading again; are you talking about the records of your excell sheet or the records within your table?

Yeah I though I made that as clear as a stagnant pond! Embarassed

Each row of the spreadsheet (excel file) has all the data for an event. (Its an events diary I'm creating so each row has things like – Event title, Date, Start time, Location and a description etc..) In Indesign I have created a text frame with a table inside to hold all the data from a row in excel. I used the data merge function the set all the info into the correct tables cells. As there are multiple events, I set things up how I wanted using the multiple records fuction in data merge. Then I create the merged doc.

No matter what I try I get varying sizes of space between each event or record (whatever you want to call it).

Hope this makes it a bit clearer… mmmm

Have you created/applied a table/cell style? Things like the width should be controllable within this style.
