      When I try to insert page number in masterpages the program shuts down. The same thing happens if I add a textframe at the bottom of the page in the document… Please help as I have a deadline on monday morning!!!!

      …it works to put it on the right page but not on the left one. The left page has an image that covers the whole page and it works to put the page number and added text above the image, within the area/columns but not below it, as in a footer. WHY?

      Weird! I assume it doesn't do that on a new file you create? Just this one?

      Try exporting the file to IDML (or INX if you're in cs3) and open that. That might remove any kind of corruption that snuck in.

      Hi David

      I have CS3 and I can´t find INX in the export-menu… Just XML, SVG, SVG Compressed, JPEG, InDesign Interchange, PDF and EPS…

      Any of these that could work instead? Do you know?

      Thanks for trying to help :)

      INX = InDesign Interchange.

      Exporting to an INX, then opening that again (use the regular “Open” command), clears all grit that may have accumulated in unused corners of your file, and may make your file start behaving correctly again.

      Make sure you keep a copy of your original (“bad”) file in case something goes awry. The INX Save/Restore trajectory is quite safe, but as always, you should keep in mind anything can go wrong.

      (Afterthought) What kind of image is that, on the left hand page? Perhaps you should open it with the program you created it with, and save again. You know, just to make sure that's not the cause.

      If it's a JPEG, open with Photoshop and save as TIFF, then use that version instead.

      Hi

      I tried what you described. Export, open and so on… Then it worked ! For a few minutes… *aaaarghhh* But I didn´t give up but kept trying and suddenly it all worked just fine… can´t figure it out. Well finally it all got ready, in time, and I thank you for helping out :)

      Hi,

      I use InDesign CS3 on a Windows XP machine and this same problem happens to me. It doesn't seem to matter if I have any images or not. I notice most times it happens when I try to use Change/Replace command. Recently, it happened when I tried remove the “End of Column Break” character from my 8 page all text document and Indesign shutdown immediately.

      What works best for me is to restart my machine launch InDesign and save the file with a new name. I take that new file and export an INX file. When I perform my Change/Replace it works fine.

      Might this be a memory or disk storage problem? I just noticed that my hard drive has 1Gb of free space of 78Gb drive.

      -Greg
