      Hi all
I’ve been asked to produce a report/book containing 4 x 120 page volumes from outside sources…but using the ‘Book file’ option for the first time.
I’ve given them a template to work to, but once I get these back, I know they will all have extensive individual tables of contents, tables and figures for each volume.
Just wondered the best way to have these individual TOCs for each section without any conflicts etc.

Also, I need to have multi level numbering throughout…would I apply this in the ‘ID book’ interface? Or in individual Volumes?

All a bit daunting! Any help welcome

I never work on books so hopefully this is not bad advice… but it seems sensible to me. I do similar stuff on a smaller scale.

The safest option is probably to create each volume separately, as 4 separate indesign files, then create a 5th (master) book file, and place each of the other 4 volumes within that master file. The placed objects don’t change unless you edit the original, so if there’s any conflicts in numbering or TOC, nothing should change in those placed objects.

I never did use the book files in the end…just 1 complete document.
However, I’ve got a larger set of Volumes coming up which I will definitely have to use all the book functionality.

Your suggestion sounds good to me so I’ll give this a try and hopefully everything will fall into place.
      Thanks for the advice!
