I updated to InDesign 2021 using the Creative Cloud app. It installed in my Windows 10 user folder (C:\Users\[username]) instead of in the programs folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe), which is where ID 2020 was.

I uninstalled both ID 2021 and ID 2020 and reinstalled ID 2021. It’s back in the user folder. That isn’t where it’s supposed to be, is it?

I asked about this three weeks ago in the Adobe Support Community and didn’t get a single response.

I really don’t care where ID 2021 is installed as long as it works, but Suitcase Fusion doesn’t recognize it as being installed and won’t install the auto-activation plugin. So I’m concerned about other things not working.

      Thanks.

That does seem very odd. Seems like something is wrong. I wonder if some CC preference was messed up. I wonder if the Creative Cloud desktop app itself has gone wonky. Maybe check its preferences? Worst case: maybe the CC app itself needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled? Extreme, but I’m not sure how else to tell it where to put the app. Perhaps a windows-savvy user here can suggest other options.

Thanks for the reply, David. I guess I should looked in the beginning, but there’s a setting for the app install location. Sure enough, it was set to the user folder. I didn’t look for it because I didn’t expect to be able to change a setting like that. I’ll try changing it and then reinstalling.

Hey there, thanks for starting this thread. I recently switched back to Windows 10 after using a Mac for several years, and I ran into the same issue when installing InDesign 2021. It ended up getting installed in my user folder instead of the programs folder, just like you experienced.
I did some research and found some helpful tips on Windows 10 product key Reddit, where other users were also discussing this issue. One suggestion was to try installing the program as an administrator, which could help it install in the correct location.
Another suggestion was to manually move the InDesign 2021 folder from the user folder to the programs folder. However, this method can be risky, as it may cause some files to become inaccessible or even corrupt.
