"Indent to Here" doesn't work – it just deletes all text after the cursor

I'm having a really hard time with bulleted and numbered lists in Indesign. No matter what I do, I cannot get the 2nd (and subsequent) lines of each bulleted/numbered item to align flush to the first line. On a Mac computer, I have used the “Indent to Here” (Ctrl ) command with success – but I am now on a Windows 7 computer, running Indesign CS6, and the “Indent to Here” command deletes all text after the cursor! This is incredibly frustrating – what am I doing wrong? Are there any workarounds that do not involve potentially messy results? Thank you.

Hard to know why the text is disappearing. Some ideas in here: https://creativepro.com/the…..g-text.php

But I rarely use indent to here anymore; much easier to set a positive left indent and negative first line indent: https://creativepro.com/how…..margin.php

I checked my keyboard shortcuts, and “Indent to Here” is listed as “Ctrl+” – there are no other functions with this key command. This is so annoying

Thank you, but this didn't change anything. The text frame in question already has a positive left indent and negative first line indent, but no matter what I change, the second line is still more indented than the first. Adjusting the line indents only changes the placement of the bullet point. What am I missing?

Here is a screenshot: above is the status of my paragraph formatting bar while selected on one of the bullet points that has this issue, which is pictured below. I'm a relative beginner to Indesign and this specific text bullet was formatted by someone else in the past. Thank you for your help.

Open the story in Edit > Edit in Story Editor and make sure type > show hidden characters is on. Any chance you have an indent to here character after the word “All” in that paragraph?

      Indesign tab problem2

Here's what it looks like in story editor. It doesn't look like there is a formatting character after the word “and.” As I said, I've tried this before on a Mac computer with files originally made by the same person, and it worked fine! However, I don't have access to a Mac at this office (plus the pricey fonts I need are only installed on this Windows computer). I really appreciate your help, David.

Also, selecting “Indent to here” from the menu doesn't work

Aaaaaaand now it's working for some reason. I literally did nothing differently… God I hate Adobe products sometimes.
