Importing text with footnotes – superscript problems

So from what I gather, footnotes are a point of contention for most InDesign users. I thought I'd sorted things out decently enough for the report I'm working on but just cannot fix something and hope someone else might have an idea.

Sometimes when I import text with footnotes, all the text AFTER one of the footnotes (not necessarily the first one) shows up entirely in superscript. (This has also happened when a date or something else in the text has superscript to it.)

The workaround to this is simply that I highlight the text and force it back to the right style but overriding it that way forces all the subsequent footnotes into regular text (even though the document footnote options specify superscript) so I have to manually find and re-superscript them.

Anybody had this problem before? Any help is appreciated!

Yeah, I have seen the Sticky-Text Formatting lots of times — not only with Superscript, but also with bold, underline, small capitals … etc. … and it usually sticks up to the next occurrence of that attribute or the end of the paragraph.

If you apply No Superscript to all of your text, you also might be loosing “1st” and “2nd” (Word-style — then again, you might not want these anyway), as well as x² and mm³ and H2O. So only do this if you are fairly sure you know stuff like this doesn't occur.

To automatically reinstate the footnote superiors, call up the Document Footnote Options dialog and change the Numbering position to “Normal”. Press OK, then call it up again and change it back to “Superscript”. There!

(You can also search for the special code “^F” and apply superscript in the Change To formatting, but that will change the numbers in both the text and in the footnote itself.)

      Perfect. Thanks!
