Importing Print Presets brings only name no settings

This is driving me nuts. I exported my print presets from CC. I import them in CC 2014. They are all there. But every single one of them have default setting. Booklets are missing stapling and tray options, legal and tabloid settings default to tray one, letter instead of tray 2 legal and tray 5 tabloid. Duplex setting default to one side. I have a lot of settings and it’s a royal pain to have to hand do these every time I upgrade CC. Any advice appreciated.

I’m surprised that InDesign isn’t migrating those automatically for you. That’s one of the new features in CC — “seamless update”

Unlike PDF Presets, Print Presets are not synched via the cloud. It’s still a Save and Load proposition, although as far as I can tell it’s the only presets group that’s not been included yet. This kind of “set it up all over again” issue is why I spent so much time in 2011 lobbying for seamless migration. The point was made, and the team put a great deal of effort into it, but they’re not all the way there yet.

If parameters from a saved preset aren’t being loaded (or perhaps not saved in the first place), that’s a major bug. My guess is that it’s something that’s not been on the radar because nobody’s been shouting about it in the forums or on the feature request/bug report form at Adobe.com. The InDesign product managers do read every bug report and feature request that’s posted using that form, so it’s worth taking the time to report it.

I encounter this problem over and over again. Each new install of a print preset has to be done on all machines. It imports the “basic” settings, but the “printer” settings itself (stapling, tray, booklet …) are ignored. It doesn’t matter if the printer is online or offline, local or on a network.

Oh, I understand better now. It’s not the settings in the Print dialog box that are getting lost, it is the printer driver settings (the options you get when you click Printer or Setup at the bottom of the Print dialog box). I don’t know if InDesign is able to read those, as they are controls in the printer driver. InDesign doesn’t really control the driver dialog box very well.

If it doesn’t pick up all the settings than “updating” is pretty useless. Of no value to a commerical or digital print shop like mine. A bit of a hassle having to re-enter all the information for 40 or so different print settings. I suppose at least getting the names in is half the update since it’s clear what has to be entered for each setting.
