I’m using my iPhone’s scanning-to-OCR function. It’s fast and efficient but puts hard returns after each line.

I’ve tried using Find/Change to remove ¶s but in the list of possible replacements I don’t see a simple white space. I’ve tried the various types listed,(punctuation space, figure space, etc.) tried just to copy/paste a space character into the “replace with” field. Nothing works. I’m looking at doing over 100 pages so I’m really hoping to find a way to work efficiently. Please help.

      Just press a spacebar key.

Thanks, Petar! Such a simple and obvious solution but it was driving me crazy. Thanks so much for your quick response! I tried it immediately and it’s just what I was looking for.

What is the app you’re using on your iPhone?

The iPhone has native OCR in iOS 15. You just use the regular camera and when you point it at text, a yellow button appears in the lower right of the screen and yellow brackets show the borders of the text area, press the button, and it takes a photo and converts the text, allowing you to copy it to the clipboard. I’ve been pasting it into an email, which may be where all the hard returns are generated. There are dedicated apps for OCR but I thought I’d try the free/built-in one before adding a separate app.

Ah, yes – but 100 pages?!
I use dedicated OCR software which obviates the problem you are experiencing.

      Try this:

      https://www.textfixer.com/tools/remove-line-breaks.php

I’ve used this sort of site for years. Works like a charm.

This is different but might also help at some point:

Remove Multiple Returns and Replace with Space Between Paragraphs
