I’m in the process of importing long user manuals from Word into InDesign. Due to the craziness of the Word documents, I will not be importing Styles when I place the Word docs into InDesign. These documents contain a large number of numbered lists, which do not import well. I’ve noticed that imported lists lose the “numbered” formatting and are converted to plain text.
Is there an easy way to convert these lists back into proper numbered lists after I place the file into InDesign? I really don’t want to have to go through each line individually. I’m using Find/Change to automate a lot of necessary edits and formatting–is there any way to use Find/Change for this purpose? Is there anything I could have my copywriter do in Word so that it will be easier for me to format these numbered lists once I pull the text into InDesign?
