I'm working on a doc (blog header) that incorporates text and images.

Problem: I have the text set, but when I try to import (“place”) the jpegs into predesignated graphic frames, no image appears. The Pages palette shows only one page (A), and it is selected. I'm sure there's some simple explanation for this anomaly, but I've combed five after-market manuals and googled copiously without success.

I'm working on a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.8 and using InDesign CS2. If you need further particulars, please ask and I'll gladly provide them! I'm a n00b to ID, so please be gentle.

      Thanks for the help,

      Aden

You create a frame, then select it frame with the Selection tool (black arrow), then choose File > Place, select an image, and click OK, and the image should appear in there. Or, if you have nothing selected on the page, Place should load the place cursor, and then you can click, or click-and-drag.

I'm concerned about your comment about the pages panel only showing “A”. That is a master page, not a document page. You want to make sure you're on Page 1, the document page.

I would strongly suggest checking out some of the books or videos available to get up to speed with InDesign. For example, we have a one-week free trial offer at lynda.com, listed here:

Thanks a million, David! Since posting, I discovered my error: my images files were simply too large, so ID didn't (couldn't?) represent them in the frame. I massaged the image files and now all is fine. Actually, I have a veritable pile of aftermarket ID manuals (some which feature your by-line), but there was nothing in any of them that addressed this simple problem. Sorry to have posted such a dumb question, but we all begin the learning process as a tabula rasa. I will definitely look into your introductory course at lynda.com (and yes, it is time to bite the bullet and upgrade :-) ).

      cheers,

      Aden
