      Hi All,

I am new to ID5 and have having issues with the “paste into” command. I've got a template that requires the same image repeated over and over in grid-like fashion. In older versions if ID, when using the paste into function, the image placed at the same size and position in each seperate image frame on the grid. With ID5, the image seems to drop in at different sizeas and different positions within each frame.

Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to rectify this?

      Thanks for your help,

      P

I have a similar problem with linking images. If I open a previous impo file that I want to reuse for another project, when I link to a new fpo it comes in at odd percentages, some times 102% sometimes 98%. The files can be the same dimensions say 7×10, it doesn't seem to matter. This is a problem as some of my impo documents are not basic side by side 8 1/2 x 11, they may be 3 1/2 x 5 with an .125 gutter in between for bleeds. I would like a little consistancy.

      Hi David,

Thanks so much for the link to the tutorial. Super helpful and very interesting. I now have another questions regarding the paste into command in Indesign CS5.

When presenting book cover mockups I always show the cover at 1-1 size and also as a thumbnail in order to get an immediate feeling of how the cover will perform when viewed at smaller sizes. In older versions of Indesign, to complete the cover thumbnail I used to group all elements on the cover and then scale them down together. This way, when I did a “paste into” for the thumbnail cover the image I was pasting automatically took the cropping and positional properties I had applied to the shot in the cover of the original size.

I don't seem to be able to do this any more – any ideas?

      Many thanks,

      P

It probably depends on how you're scaling the object — the Scale tool, or the Control panel, or cmd/ctrl-dragging, or the Free Transform tool, etc.

      Hi David,

I've now tried them all and I can't seem to make this work – I'd appreciate any advice you might have so I can get around this. The only thing I can think of at this point is to rescale every cover on every option I present, but this will be insanely time consuming…

      Thanks for time and help,

      P
