Image Rotation issue with Data Merge

When trying to place images with data merge, the images are importing with a 90° rotation. The images have the correct rotation when viewed in explorer and randomly there will be an image that comes in correctly.
Interestingly, when the rotated image is selected it is not recognized as rotated, (the “P” icon next to the rotation buttons is straight up)
      Any advice on this issue?

      Can you screenshot and share?

I have often seen images that appear correct in Explorer (or Finder on the Mac) appear sideways when placed in InDesign or opened in Photoshop. I suggest opening in Photoshop to see if they are correct there. Also, you may need to resave them to disk from Photoshop to ensure they are encoded correctly.

They do seem to appear correctly when opened in photoshop

I tried that on 3 images and that seems to work.
How would I batch resave them?

Set up an action and then in the file menu>Automate>Batch… run the action.

I seem to be doing something wrong in the action. I pressed record then opened one image pressed save and closed the file then I stopped recording.
However it seems like the action is only opening the file and closing it without resaving.

Okay, I think I got it now.
Thanks so much for your help! This saved me hours of tedious work.
