      Hey guys,

I’d love your help as I am stuck. I am exporting an epub out of indesign CC 11.3, and then converting to mobi via Kindle previewer and I am having a problem with my linked images.

I have images which are grouped with text (captions), which I have exported as an object. I have selected the grouped image/caption and hyperlinked the grouped object. They aren’t working. I mean, when I check them on my MAC, all the links work just fine, but when it is uploaded to KDP, none of the hyperlinked images work at all.

What do I do to fix this problem?

      Any questions?

I have a stressed client and appreciate your help!

      Thank you so much!

Do I take it you are trying to hyperlink a grouped object (image-caption) to a toc-style list (index) of images? The first thing I’d do is to import your ePub into Calibre and convert it to a mobi file. See what’s happening there with the code. But of course you may have already gone the best route which is to post your question on a Kindle forum. I’m not on a Mac so it’s hard for me to diagnose.

      Paul,

Sorry for the delay, we have been dealing with the hurricane. :)

There are several photos and captions which have been grouped each individually, turned into a exported object, and hyperlinked to different you tubes, and author sites.

The links work on my Mac, both mobi and epub, but once uploaded to KDP, the links on these objects are lost… would it help to convert these objects to buttons instead, or maybe hyperlinking in some other way? Any ideas?

Hope you escaped any hurricane damage.
Did you try Calibre? What happens if you export to Kindle directly from InDesign?
I’m going offline for the rest of the day now but if you’re still having problems I’ll make a test on one of my files tomorrow.

Played with this for awhile this AM but without success. Mobi, no matter how I create it, won’t honour the hyperlink. Sorry.

So Paul, does Mobi not honor any of the image hyperlinks? What about the text hyperlinks? There are references in the text saying see image 3.1, which I could hyperlink instead of the actual image. Will Mobi honor that?

What a shame! why would they not allow it??

      I really appreciate your help.

Storm here caused quite a bit of damage, but everyone has begun cleanup. Thanks for asking!

No, no, Mobi definitely honours hyperlinks, I have any number in my Kindle (reflowable) book, at least of the external url type. I think part of the problem may be the reflowable nature of an ePub. Since you can’t link to a page number (they change), you’d have to link to a text anchor. I haven’t tried this (it’s our Thanksgiving here), but I will for my edification. I have one fixed-layout Kindle book and am about to upload another. Because page numbers are fixed, internal hyperlinks work fine.

Steve, perhaps you’ve already found an answer. Although I don’t intend to go any further, I did get a mobi to honour a text-anchor hyperlink. However, neither the Kindle export from InDesign or exporting to an ePub and then using Kindle Previewer succeeded. I made the ePub in InDesign and then opened and converted it to mobi in Calibre. The link then worked both in Calibre and Kindle Previewer. Some of my problems may have been caused by using an existing doc which was a short book chapter with other hyperlinks (I’m only doing conversions to fixed-layout epubs presently).
