I'm learning InDesign CS5 but am a long-time Quark user. I'm frustrated by the image fitting options in InDesign – I'm accustomed to scaling an image inside the frame with keyboard shortcuts. Fitting proportionally by frame or image is awkward and doesn't give me the freedom to scale an image way up. Is there any other way to scale my image besides the standard toolbar fitting options?

Also can I see the image size as a percentage somewhere in the toolbar? Do I have to keep going to the LINKS window? InDesign seems counter-intuitive to me but maybe that's because I am accustomed to Quark.

Bunne, ID has all the same features as QX in this regard, I believe. You can ignore the frame fitting features entirely. Just place an image, then hold down Command-Shift (or Ctrl-Shift on PC) and drag a corner with the black arrow selection tool to scale the frame and its contents.

To see the image scaling, you need to select the image (as opposed to the frame): Double-click on it to select the image. Double-click again to select the frame. (Yes, the Links panel is also a good method.)

Also, as a recent convert from QX, you might want to check out this excellent (if I do say so myself) guide to converting:

      https://adobe.com/products/inde…..nguide.pdf

That's a 8 MB PDF with lots of comparisons and tips and such. Definitely best to view it in Acrobat (not Preview or some other pdf viewer, as there's animations and a few movies.)

David… oh jeez.. this works. I purchased your ID Training CD in December and have been working my way thru the videos, but just couldn't find this tip. Your lessons have been so valuable – keeping be steady on the learning curve. Thanks!

David… this Quark to ID Conversion Guide is just what I needed. Many thanks for your expert assistance on this.
