I'm going crazy… lady says my pdf file has ICC colors in it

      Hello,

I’ve been working in indd for quite a while and I do have a decent background in prepping files for print.

But, we sent out a pdf of an indd ad that contains an image thats a cmyk tiff in the background and it has a gradient feather.

On top of that is text, basically, and a logo. There are only 3 colors in the doc other than black and white, and they’re all cmyk.

so I’ve been using the flattener preview and can see that my image is transparent. I tried flattening it in Acrobat Pro too.

The first comments I received from the magazine production person are as follows:

“The ad contains transparencies that need to be flatten. Also version should be PDF/X-1a:2001. Please correct and re-send
      ad back to me.”

So tried to flatten the pdf x-1a in Acrobat and save that. I sent that, and then she wrote: I checked the ad and it has ICC colors in it. All colors need to be converted out of CMYK. The PDF version should be PDF/X-1a:2001. I have attached a digital ad spec sheet outlining the type of file we can use.”

Her document doesn’t say anything much except to export from Indd as a pdf x-1a:2001.

Is there something I’m doing wrong when I save the pdf from Indd? Maybe in the “output” section? Please help…. thanks in advance

Wow, that doesn’t sound fun :( I would probably be in the same boat if it were me as I’m not familiar the color profiles end of InDesign. I did a little searching (as I was curious and would want to know what to do if I had the same issue) and found another form post on here that might be of help.

      Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your response. I tried so many different things that I can’t really remember what my final steps for success were! But, I was able to use Acrobat Pro to compare the pdf settings of my variables and finally got rid of the ICC color profile.

In Acrobat Pro I went to “Print Production” then went to “Convert Colors” and clicked on “Color Spaces” to check them.

I didn’t actually convert anything there, but I was able to see through trial and error that ICC was gone in the “Color Spaces” box.

Not sure that’s helpful for your curiosity but I was not able to get Indd to behave as described here:
