      Hi All-

I’m facing a very odd issue…InDesign CS7 has slowed to an absolute crawl for me. This only happens when I edit a document that is part of a book, or has been part of a book at any point.

If I create a new document, it flies.

Right now, I’m averaging 25-35 seconds for actions I make. Every character I type, every return I make, every graphic I place takes AT LEAST 20 seconds to appear. In the meantime, I get the hourglass circle blinking on and off every 2-3 seconds, and I can’t do anything else with InDesign until it’s finished doing each individuial action.

I have 8gb of RAM on a dual-core laptop, and plenty of free hard/scratch disk space, so that’s not the issue. Everything else is running perfectly fine, and new documents in ID are fine.

I have rebooted my machine. No change.

Preflight is turned off. That’s not the problem. Any ideas?

I moved all the pages in the document that was slow to a fresh new document, deleted the original, saved the replacement, and replaced it in the book. All is good now.

      Weird.

Glad you got that worked out. Strange! Sometimes cross-references can be a problem across books. Other suggestions here:
