      Hi everybody,

every time I try to print a file inside cs4 I get this message:

“The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer dialog are not supported.”

It happens in my Notebook, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X 10.4.11, Indesign CS4. This is not exactly an “up to date” configuration but this is what I have for the moment.

Is there any workaround to deal with this besides upgrading Indesign or using the print to Adobe PostScrip® File?

First because I really can't update Indesign right now. I really want it but… And I usually print to a generic printer and distill the ps file using different job options, depending on the client.

What I can't do is upgrade the Mac OS to 10.5 but I am not sure this computer can handle it.

      Any ideas?

I would really appreciate any help!

Printing to PDF, or to PS and then distilling, have both been unnecessary for a long time now … Why not simply Export to PDF?

Hi Jongware, thank you for your answer.

I know this subject has been dicussed here before. I still keep the routine of distilling my files firstly because I am following my printer instructions and secondly because I try to be as cautious as I can with some files I have to deliver directly to the client and can't talk to the printer. I know this is not the best practice but it happens every now and then.

Actually, my main concern isn't exporting pdfs from Indesign but saving them directly from Illustrator. I can't explain the reasons for that because it is too advanced for me but some printers say they cannot be trusted and won't accept them.

Maybe my problem is not only or exactly Indesign related but, to be honest with you, I was hoping someone here could help me. I usually work with Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop together. You probably do the same, right?

      Thank you!

ps.: I wrote above “I can't upgrade to Mac OS 10.5” but I can. I just typed it wrong.

InDesign wants you to use its own PostScript-writing features. In the Print dialog box, you can choose “PostScript File” from the Print pop-up menu at the top. The PPD will be “device independent.” That makes the “Print” button change to “Save”.
