When upgrading to CS5 on an upgraded Windows OS I somehow lost my custom settings for PDF generation. What I did was to just create and save the new Adobe PDF Preset file from ID. By chance I saved it to a local folder inside my working area.

Now, what i've been investigating was how to force the pdf engine create files with the Initial View set to show bookmarks panel and fit to page view. The recommendations in the “https://acrobatusers.com/blogs/lkassuba/setting-initial-view-property-your-pdfs” were extremely helpful, including modification of the epilogue file and distiller joboptions file.

This was no effect for ID though and later I found out that I have 2 joboptions files on my box with the same name: one in my local folder and the other one in C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe PdfSettings. None of these folders was referenced in the registry entry for distiller joboptions.

However Distiller updated the file from the second folder. But again, ID ignored it.

I compared the files and added /UsePrologue true to the local file. ID still ignored it. Provided ID did not know where to find prologue.ps and epilogue.ps, I copied them to the local folder. It did not help either.

It is frustrating to go change the Initial view in acrobat every time you generate a pdf, which I do on a regular basis.

Do you have any suggestions how to instruct ID use the Distiller joboptions file?

      Thanks!

Not sure if anyone cares, but I found the answer :-).

ID uses its own pdf engine and does not use prologue/epilogue settings.

However, is you print to PS and then use Distiller to generate a pdf, then epilogue settings take effect.

In my case unfortunetaly it does not fit because this workflow eliminates pdf interactivity, which is what i need for my output.
