Back before InDesign, Quark XPress had it so that if your Keyboard Increments Cursor Key was set to (for example) .125″, and you wanted to move (for example) a text box one point at a time, all you had to do was also hold down the control or option key.

Can InDesign do this? I’ve looked and googled but have never found it.

The “Units and Increments” preference lets you change it. But you don’t need to hold down the option key to move anything up or over. Just have the mover tool, click the box and use the cursor keys.

Using the shift key you can increase the movement by a factor of 10.
