I need to lessen the space after an important 36 pt. font Addendum number and which is before a sub-heading. Is there a way to do this?? I've tried everything I know to do and have hit a wall with this. (It's the only way to keep the final two lines of the addendum off a right side page.)

D, do you mean that the number is on line 1 and the subhead on line 2? In that case, try increasing the baseline shift of the second line (that way the second line goes up to the 36 pt number). If you created a para style for the 36 pt number, check if the “space after” is set to “0”, and that the second line has “0” space before.

No, it's like this: I have a line that says Chapter One in 36 pt. Then I have a space. Then I have a Chapter Title in 28 pt. .

And it's the space between the two that I can't seem to shrink. The space seems stuck as a 36 pt. space, just like the Chapter One above it with 36 pt font.

I have the same problem if I want to pull the “Chapter One” up one space. It will only go up by 36 pt. What if I want it to go up by 18 pt??

(I also have to admit that I have no idea how to bring “Chapter One” upward except by putting my cursor above it and pressing Delete….but it's forced to ugo p by a 36 pt space.)

Appreciate any guidance here with this Indesign novice….:)

D, Just select the space with the text tool. You'll see it's 36 pt. Decrease it to 12 pt (or something else).

Problem b: select “chapter one”, search for “baseline shift” and set it to 18 pt. If the line above is empty, just change the size into 18 pt instead of 36.

Gert, I've tried changing the font-size-space repeatedly and it does nothing to shrink the space. If I have a title in 36 pt, the space above and space below will stay 36 pt, even if I change the font size to 6! So many things I'm stumped about with Indesign!

But…your recommendation to use the Baseline Shift is brilliant and would work for my inability to move a title up without placing my cursor above and pressing delete. Thank u.

D, ok. Try to increase the leading from “auto” to something else (select the complete title for this). If the 36 pt title is on top of the page this doesn't work, but, it's worth a try.
