      Is it possible to create pcl file (Printer Command Language) from InDesign document? Currently I am creating PDF from InDesign and then converting pdf to pcl using ghost script. Is there any other solution? Becuase if I convert pcl file using ghost script, file is bigger. For example: pdf size is 70 kb, but converted pcl file size is 700 kb.

      Can anyone confirm the best procedure to get pcl file from InDesign document?

      Wow… I have not heard PCL in a very long time!
      In general, you should be able to print to a non-PostScript printer without much trouble, but the result may be bitmapped. (You can use “Print as Image” in the Output tab of the Print dialog box.

      What is the benefit of using PCL instead?

      What happens if you print directly from Acrobat? (You can use “Print as Bitmap” in the Advanced settings in Acrobat’s print dialog box.)

        @David Blatner,

        In the PDF export setting –> Advanced –> Bitmap Images, there are two other options avaialble “Omit for OPI: EPS and PDF”. Should I enable those check boxes or Bitmap Images alone enough?

        No, you do not want to use OPI, unless you are using an OPI server (which I don’t think anyone does anymore)

      @David,

      Thank you so much for your reply on this.

      Actually one of our customer requesting us to deliver pcl file with 300 and 600 resolution (2 pcl files) along with PDF file. As per our understanding, customer using pcl file for printing purpose.

      Could you please guide us more on this pcl conversion?
