Okay, well I know that usually you wouldn’t be coloring a coloring page in InDesign but my teacher says that it’s the best way to get better at using the pen tool to outline objects and them fill them in with color. I am confused on exactly how that works, I know that I can use the pen tool to outline things but when I go to outline all the all the objects on that particular coloring sheet to color around it doesn’t look right at all. For example I have to color a flower, and the flower has a face on it, how do I color the flowers face without covering up it’s eyes and it’s cheek circles and it’s smile? And how do I do all of that without making it look like it has jagged edges? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Best practice for drawing illustrations is to use layers, and put each element on a different layer.

You can also send objects forward and backward on a layer, either using the Layers Panel to move the sublayer, or use the keyboard shortcuts https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/selecting-objects.html

There’s a great game for getting you used to doing Beizer Curves https://bezier.method.ac/

All that in mind – when drawing with the pen tool try make the shape using as few a points as possible to the get the best result.
