How can I -precisely- scale a cropped object in indesign?

Once I crop an object, I know I can scale by selecting the free transform tool and then clicking and dragging.

But this isn't precise. I can't scale by hand to exactly, say, 5 inches, unless I get incredibly lucky and maybe take some beta blockers before trying to move the mouse. I like being able to type “5 in” into the transformation palette, but then this crops/uncrops the object to 5 inches. It doesn't scale it.

So how do I scale my already-cropped object to an exact size?

I know one way. You can type 5 inches in transform panel in scale area where it says 100%. You must have constrain proportions checked.

Cheers, kicking myself for not seeing it. Much obliged.
