Horizontal line as bullet

      Hello all,
So, I’m laying out an interior of a workbook, so there’s a lot of different form-like formatting, tables, etc. I need to create a “bulleted” list, but instead of a bullet, it needs to be a baseline horizontal line, to be used to mark an “x” or checkmark. I can use the underscore character, but it’s not long enough. The only way to make it look right is to increase the horizontal width of the character by 1000%, which I don’t want to do. Is there any way to create this automatically? The only other option I see is to cut a vector rule/line and paste it inline ahead of the text.

      Thanks for any/all suggestions.

I’m curious why you don’t want to apply an underline character and then change the width (with a character style)?

Another option could be to apply a Rule Above, and set the Left Offset of the rule to be a negative number (if you want it to stick outside the text frame) and a huge Right Offset, so that it ends up being just a short line to the left of the paragraph.

I actually tried the rule-below just like you said, but when the paragraph had enough words to be more than one line, it messed up where the rule landed. My second try was using the underline character and character style, like you said, but in order to have it the length the author wanted, iI had to stretch the character 1000%.

Ah… yes, Rule Below would not work. That’s why I suggested Rule Above. It’s in the same dialog box. It won’t move when you have a multi-line paragraph. :-)

Thanks so much! Rule-above worked beautifully! I would have thought it needed to be rule-below, to sit on the baseline, but this is perfect. :D
