I was recently browsing through the menus of InDesign and noticed the Configure Plug-Ins option. Brosing through this I noticed there are several things in here that I could probally disable. I never use snippets or inCopy for instance. Before I go all willy-nilly and start disabling things is there any reason to worry. I assume if I disable things that it may speed indesign up a bit or make it more stable since there are less things running that could cause issues. Are these incorrect assumptions. Are there any benefits what so ever to disabling plugins?

I don't think it speeds up indesign? And you may have issues opening other files that use those plugins?

hmm then why even give us the option to turn Plug-Ins on and off? I guess you could limit the funtionality of Indesign for training purposes. Kinda like making custom workspaces that hide options that might be confusing or unused in your companies workflow.

InDesign is mostly features made up of plug-ins. The windows and panels, and menus etc. Sometimes these plugins can become corrupted and technical support can help track down corrupted plugins, so disabling a plugin may allow you access to the files or something along those lines, I can't think of every scenario :-P But for 3rd party plugins you would have to contact that particular company etc.

So you can use the Plugin Manager to look at and to customise sets of plugins, get details about the plugin create new sets for different people/workgroups/etc or simply to try to troubleshoot if a plugin is causing problems by disabling certain plugins

I had installed a demo version of a plug in and after using it a few times decided it wasn't what I was looking for. So I went to manage plug ins thinking I could delete the demo plug in from there and would up deleting all my plug ins.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get them back?

If you actually deleted them, you may need to reinstall the software. But I would look inside the InDesign application folder. Perhaps they are still there, but in a different (disabled) folder.
