      Hello,

The H&J Violations highlighting increased dramatically in the first fifty pages of a file when it was opened today. That is, lines that were not highlighted yesterday are highlighted today, and lines that had light highlighting yesterday have dark highlighting today. The line breaks did not change. As far as we know, nothing changed to cause this: justification settings, font size, text frame size and inset are the same. It is an H&J Violations issue, because all of the highlighting disappears when the H&J Violations checkbox in Preferences is unchecked.

The highlighting in the rest of the file did not change.

Any ideas what would cause this?

      Thanks!

Weird! I have no idea why that would change. Did you update InDesign? (There was an update from 16.1 to 16.3.2 recently, I believe)
You sure that H&J violations were enabled yesterday?

It is weird! The file info for both files says the version is 15.1. When we open yesterday’s file, it shows the H&J violations highlighting. If we toggle back and forth between the two files, the highlighting changes, but nothing else on the page or in the Control Panel does, that we can see.

When I saved the file as IDML and reopened it, the highlighting was back to normal. Maybe some kind of file corruption?

Great troubleshooting trick! Yes, that does sound like a very minor corruption issue. (Though it’s hard to know.) Glad it’s cleared up!
