Here in the Netherlands a telefon number consists of 10 numbers. This can be (020) 123 45 67, as well (0172) 123 456 -mind the first four digits. We all know our clients and their lack of consistency. So within one single file the format of a telefon number can be enormous.

      For example:

      (020) 123 4567

      (020)-123 4567

      (020)-1234567

      020 – 123 4567

      020-123 4567

      (020) 123 4567

      020-123 45 67

To bring in consistency we use GREP. We search for: “(?(d{3}))?( ?)(-?)( ?)(d{3})( ?)(d{2})( ?)(d{2})” and change that to “($1) $5 $7 $9”. And there you have it, the format for all telefon numbers are (020) 123 45 67.

But… is there a way I can search for the other constructed telefon numbers -starting with four digits? Or just a search string that is more flexible?

I'm just started using GREP so the string above could be a bit simple.
