Hidden Typeface — Cannot Remove or Convert to Outlines

I have created a bunch of templates for our newspaper ads. Whenever I use these templates and then convert all text to outlines, the “package” dialog box shows that there is still one typeface being used. This is across the board in all of the templates. It doesn’t actually affect the work flow, but I would like to get to the bottom of this and remove the typeface.

I have checked to make sure all layers are unlocked when I select all and convert to outlines. I have also looked in the master page, as well as the character and paragraph styles. I cannot find the typeface in those locations. I have also tried to find any element that may have accidentally been converted to have a text content designation, but I cannot find anything there either. When I go to “find font,” hit the “find first” or “find next” button, it looks like it is recognizing that the font is in the document, but it does not highlight anything, so I can’t tell where it is.

Are there any tips to somehow select and remove the hidden typeface?

      Thank you!

What typeface does it say it there? I think Minion Pro cannot be removed, because it is part of the basic paragraph style.

Why are you converting to outlines?! I don’t think you should do this… see https://creativepro.com/converting-text-to-outlines-the-right-way.php

I do not want to get into a debate about flattening vs. outlining. I just want to find and remove the typeface. Can you help with this? The typeface is LHF Billhead. thank you.

My guess is that it’s inside one of your character or paragraph styles. In Find Font, click “More Info” and see if it’s inside a style, or what page it’s on… etc.

If you have a text frame anywhere in the document, you’ll have a font listed, even if it’s not used. It’s one of the attributes of a text frame that can’t be removed.

You can test this by creating a new document, entering some sample text in a text frame, selecting it all and converting it to outlines, which makes it an anchored object inside the frame. Look at Find Font and you’ll see a typeface listed.

Then select the outlined text with the Selection tool and choose Object > Anchored Object Options > Release, and then delete the text frame, leaving the outlined text. Look in Find Font and you’ll see no fonts are listed.

So unless you can construct a template with no text frames, (it’s possible! Just use guides to indicate where text frames should go) then you’ll always have a font listed.
