Hey there! I'm trying to take one large InDesign file, that was used to create a printed book, and prepare it for export to epub.

My research has pointed me in the direction of taking that one large file (that has multiple chapters, etc.) and creating a “book” file.

So I'm trying to figure out the best way to take our one large InDesign file and break it up into multiple InDesign files to create a book file.

Any input would be so appreciated!

      Thanks so much!

I don't know any great ways to split up a file. I usually just do a Save As, then delete a bunch of pages, then go back to the original and save as, then delete other pages, and so on. Tedious, at best.

Thanks so much for the response!

I was afraid of that. So, I started doing this, and I've encountered a little issue that you may know how to fix.

I did a save as and deleted everything that came after Chapter 1 without any problems. But when, I I try and delete any of the pages before Chapter 1 (the preface, copyright page, etc) it starts to shift the pages forward. What I mean by that is when I delete a page,(again, anything before chapter 1) it gets rid of the page but moves all the wording forward, so that the last page of chapter 1 disappears.

I think I need to unlink something, but I'm having trouble figuring it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm so lost…

      Thanks again,

Alright, I just figured it out! I went into the Applications, Samples, Java Script and checked SplitStory.jsx. It unlinked the text boxes!

      Thanks again for the help!

So, I thought I had it figured out. But now that I've split the story and created seperate indesign documents for all the chapters, since these new documents are not threaded, there are problems when I export to epub.

What I need to do is rethread the text frames. I've tried clicking on the in or outports to relink, but it's placing new text boxes over the current ones.

I'm thinking there must be a better way to delete pages in my original long Indesign document with out using SplitStory and unthreading the whole document.

Any help would be much appreciated!
