      Good morning,
I’m trying to figure out how to do something that seems quite easy but it’s above my current skills.
I have a three columns single table running for 40 pages. The table consists of

BRAND PRODUCER 1 (with a cell style and a paragraph style)
      Row 1
      Row 2
      Row 3

BRAND PRODUCER 2 (with a cell style and a paragraph style same as Producer 1)
      Row 1
      Row 2
      Row 3

      and so on.

Now I need to put a running header on the page (not a table header) and it must contain ALL the BRAND PRODUCERS on the page.
So I tried with text variables, choosing the brand producer paragraph style, but there I can only have the first and last occurrences of said style.
How can I tell inDesign to put all the words with that paragraph (or character style) inside the header?

      Hi,

Do you have the same number of “Brand Prod…” on each page?

      Nope =(
Sometimes I can have 4 of them and other time just one.
They are motorcycle manufacturer, so I can have one page with 4/5 small ones (like KTM or MBK) and other pages with one that goes on and on on several pages (i.e. YAMAHA)

      Riccardo,

Could you show a screenshot of what you want [a spread layout]?

Do you use one story or unchained text frames?

      The table in one story.
As you can see the makers are the ones in the black background and, at the top of the page I’d like to have all the maker after
      “Tabella applicazioni batterie”

Just to be clear, the header on that spread has been made by hand.

      … That’s why it’s not correct! ;-)

I suppose “Tabella applicazioni batterie” is another variable!

      Let me explain:

The header has been made by hand to let everybody see what I want to get.
Of course the real one must have some kind of text variables (or other system) to automatically update depending on what is on the page.

My first attempt was as follows:
I set a text variable pointing to the Maker paragraph style.
“Tabella applicazioni batterie” is not another variable but it’s the running header “text before”.

My problem is, using text variables, I’ve been able only to create the header that says “Tabella applicazioni batterie”-VAR1-/-
      VAR2-

Where VAR 1 is the first Maker paragraph style occourrence and VAR 2 is the last.
So to get back to my example image, inDesign created a header with:
      “Tabella applicazioni batterie ADLY/APRILIA”
and it’s ok, but I’m looking for a way to make indesign put all the makers of the page and not just the first and the last ones.

      I had totally understood!

To finish, You’ll need “Power Headers”, from in-Tools!

I’ve tried to use it, but when I go to install, there is no option for cc2017 =(

Yeap! That’s the problem with plugins that don’t immediately follow the ID update!

      That why I prefer scripts!

One clue and direction a scripter could play it in your case:

Find para styles on each page, duplicate their contents in an header created by the script on the page [with a ” / ” separator between them + adding in first the last find of the previous page (if it exists)]!

imho, not really complex to write!

… And if the layout moves, Launch the script again!

So, Is there a scripter in the plane?! ;-)

The script idea would be great, but I have no idea even from where I could start XD

      Find a scripter …! Personally, I don’t work for free! ;-) [but I’m cool!]
