So I have an 80 page document & it's about 95% finished. I've been working on it for about 3 weeks & today after I exported one of the pages, it crashed. & I just cannot get the document to reopen, no matter what I try. It will start to open & then the missing font dialog box pops up and indesign crashes… it seems like some form of corruption at this point. I've tried resetting my preferences. A friend was able to open it long enough to save it as an .idml, but that seems to be corrupt as well. I've tried opening it on a pc and a mac. Im using a Macbook Pro that I got in 2010 & I'm working in Indesign CS5. Can anyone please give me any advice on what to do? I'm slightly panicked as this is supposed to be going to the printer in 4 days. Thanks very much in advance.

I've also tried opening a new document & placing the old one inside, which also doesn't work.

Perhaps the problem lies not in the document but in your local fonts. If one got damaged somehow (it's always a mystery to me how something like that could happen!), InDesign will appear to work correctly right until it needs that font.

Even though the foundations of Adobe are firmly fixed into font creation, InDesign cannot work with a Bad Font, and rather than issuing an error message, it crashes. Hard.

If you know what fonts are used in the document, remove them (unless they are “system fonts”, in which case you would break even more) and see if InDesign opens your document. Of course it will complain there are some fonts missing, but if it does not creash, you know the cause. Only problem at that point is to find the original files for your fonts.

Hey thank you for replying. So before I could even try to solve any font issues, Indesign has now stopped exporting. Everything I try to export runs for a few seconds and then fails. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling the software which didn't help & I've done a system restore which also didn't help. Can you recommend any next steps to try?

Maybe you can try this first:

      https://www.adobe.com/support/c…..rtool.html

      Re-install afterwards.
