Half Sheet Spread Gap

Okay, I’ve done some searching and haven’t found this spelled out, so it’s likely an error on my part. This is more of a PDF issue, but you may have the solution.

I’m creating a letter, half-sheet booklet. 16 pages, 3p margins. Page 8-9 is to be a single image spread across both pages. I’ve done the layout in numeric order, relying on Acrobat to print as a booklet (or my printer), and when I export to PDF it looks good, but when I send it to the printer … I get a small gap between pages 8-9. I’ve tried different bleed settings, and they remove the gap, but the image doesn’t seam up, causing some duplication in the image. I’ve also tried removing pages 8-9 and put in a full letter sheet, but, as suspected, this messes up the booklet printing.

      Any suggestions?

I have trouble using Print Booklet from Acrobat. try using the Print Booklet feature in InDesign. It’s under File > Print booklet. It seems to have more options than in Acrobat, and works with better success.

Thanks, but sadly, I don’t have a printer for my computer with InDesign, forcing me to rely on a separate computer, hence converting it to PDF. I think my only other option is to print as a postscript document and convert to PDF.

Now, I’ve tried this, but the orientation is wrong. The PS file is in portrait, but I want it as landscape. Oddly, the print settings->setup, which has orientation, is grayed out.

So, short of reordering the pages manually on full, letter (landscape), I’m at a loss.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

        BTW: I’m using 2017 InDesign CC (12.0.0.81)

Okay, I found a satisfactory workaround.

In Acrobat, I selected PDF as my printer while setting it to print as a booklet. This output the spread in order with the seam on the center page resolved. Printing posed no issues.

I hope anyone that has a similar issue finds this workaround helpful.

      Thanks!
