GREP clean-up script

      I’m a n00b to ExtendScript (I cant say I’m super fluent in JS, but I understand enough to get around) and just trying to stumble my way around, but I’m kinda at the point with this script that I need to ask for directions. So I have an issue that I cant seem to figure out and a questions relating to a script. I pulled this script from the “InDesign CS5 Automation Using XML and Javascript” book (pp. 179-188) and modified the GREP searches to fit my needs, but after finally getting it stable enough to use, I can’t get it to actually apply the GREP Find/Change queries to my test document in InDesign CC 2014. Also, if possible, I would like to modify the script to find a text style (e.g. Italic) and replace with a character style, is there a way to do that as the script is now?
