This one has bugged me for years. I like to design a book so that the first page of each chapter has a unique layout. I create a separate Master spread for this (typically B-Master, left and right). If I build the book using an INDB, where each chapter is in a separate INDD file and the first page in each chapter will always be a B-Master, there are no issues if the text re-flows or I insert/remove pages.
However, for smaller projects, I find it easier to edit and maintain all the chapters in a single INDD file. THEN I get the problem. The problem is the B-Master spread assignment doesn’t stick with the original text if some text is added/deleted or pages inserted/removed. E.g. let’s say Chapter 3 starts on the right side, page 41, and was assigned B-Master Right. Then I add some text to Chapter 2, causing Chapter 3 to now move to the left side, page 42. It will now have whatever Master was assigned originally to page 42 and the text that now occupies page 41 will be treated with the B-Master. I then need to go through the whole book and reapply the correct masters. This is a royal pain.
Is there any way to make the B-Masters stick with the text and not stick to the page number?
There’s a bottle of good rum in it for anyone who can make this work?
Cheers!
