      Hi there,
I am working on a book that has lots of footnotes. One note is super long, and actually takes up way too much of the page. It’s on the left hand page. The notes on the right hand page are about 1/5 the size. Is there any way to push part of the note onto the right hand page, so that the footnotes and body text will appear more balanced?

      How should I approach this?

Footnotes and Indesign, not a good marriage. I would try a shorten the frame on the left side, so the footnote shifts to the right. Adding white spaces before the note can do the trick too.

If you really want to control footnotes, then you may need to skip ID’s limited automation altogether, and go back to the way we used to do it: make a separate story for notes, and thread it across the foot of relevant pages. More practically, when I need don’t like where ID breaks a paragraph in the footnotes I try to control it by adjusting the paragraph’s Keep Options, settings the number of lines allowed by Keep Lines Together either before or after to force the break I want. Obviously, this may need re-adjusting if pages re-flow.
