I'm working on a booklet in ID CS4. In addition to a text column, each page has a sidebar in which there are photo captions and text blurbs in separate, unllinked text boxes. On some pages, I need to footnote the blurbs and captions in addition to the text, but I end up with three Footnote No. 1s on the same page. Is there any way to get the separate text blocks on a page or spread to number consecutively short of linking them together?

And if I do have to link them together, is there a better way to do that other than copying the text from one box into the next and readjusting the text boxes?

Rorohiko's free(!) plugin Textstitch will do that trick for you.

Indeed; you have to link the checkboxes together, rorohiko's plugin takes for account that your text is in different textboxes, it will let them stay there by using Hard returns (next column break), so if one of your textboxes is bigger than it's text the text will not be reflowed into there messing everything up (with the default textlinktool)

      have fun!
