Over the past few years, I’ve created long reference manuals (set up as InDesign books) into epubs from always-messy Word docs (supplied by someone else). I’ve developed a good workflow for getting almost everything into paragraph and character styles without too much hassle (GREP, Find/Replace, etc.), but the footnotes always transfer in strangely. I have a script that shows the non-compliant text in a blue highlight, and what remains in blue are the footnote numbers in the text itself, and the entirety of all the footnote references. Mostly it appears to be the wrong size font for the the style. To clear the style override, I have to go into each paragraph and each footnote and “option-click” on the footnote style. Long reference manuals make for lots of footnotes. Any ideas for not having to manually click into each footnote and paragraph?
