      Fellow InDesign users,

I am layouting a publication where the chapters have each their own thematic color. Chapter 1 is blue, chapter 2 is red, and so on. The document has a lot of footnotes and I want the footnote separator line to carry the colour of the chapter. Is there a way to change the color of the separator line without breaking the sequence of footnote numbers? Numbering the footnotes has to be continous throughout due to the index.

Any tips, direct or workarounds, would be much appreciated.

Create para styles with para rules above set to “on” for the first footnote and select the right color. A second para style with no rule above for the next notes on the same page.
Uncheck the “rules on” in the footnote option panel in the type menu. That way you can create different colored rules.
